How I helped during Covid 19 Lockdown

My Covid 19 Mission

Well, since I knew I wasn't about to clean out my closets, or my studio. I decided to start mailing postcards of original artwork to my fellow shut-ins. I wanted to do something that would keep my mind off the terrible news that was playing on a never ending loop on the TV.
I didn't want to watch all the shows I never got around to watching in the first place. I did have a working sewing machine, and my hand stitching skills are non-existent!
I thought I'd start by making postcard sized original art, and mail it to my close friends, and set a limit of 100. Did I know 100 people who would enjoy getting something in the mail that wasn't begging for your money, or a bill? I just didn't know. So I sent out 3-4 handmade postcards a day. I wanted them to be special. I wanted them to be one of a kind. I wanted them to be uplifting.
I labeled them, "Postcards from the Edge" 1/100-100/100. I included my website, and address on the bottom in the hope I would start other artists to thinking about sharing their creativity with others too.
This became my daily routine. All kinds of art, abstract, like the one above, then landscapes and floral. I knew what I was going to be doing every day. I had a mission! I had a plan!
I was running out of people to send these to, so I reached out on social media and showed them what I was doing, and asked if anyone wanted a card. What a great response! I was meeting new artists and non artists who had never painted but were willing to try. Those cards were some of my favorites. Such raw talent untapped!
Now even I was looking foreword to getting the mail every day! Someone would send a card they'd made, thanking me for brightening their day. That was a pretty good feeling! I did send a few to repeat people, but that was fine with me. Before I knew it, I'd sent out my 100/100th postcard. I didn't feel done yet, so I decided to start another series. This next series would be my, "Covid 19 Postcard" series.
Another 100 postcard are going out. And to think I thought I'd run out of ideas! Ha! I've gotten such a kick out of seeing what comes out next. So now I'm up to #87/100, and wondering if I can stop now, when I reach 100?
Maybe I'll take a break and start up again as the summer wains.
